RESUMEN

Skin-interfaced electronics (skintronics) have received considerable attention due to their thinness, skin-like mechanical softness, excellent conformability, and multifunctional integration. Current advancements in skintronics have enabled health monitoring and digital medicine. Particularly, skintronics offer a personalized platform for early-stage disease diagnosis and treatment. In this comprehensive review, we discuss (1) the state-of-the-art skintronic devices, (2) material selections and platform considerations of future skintronics toward intelligent healthcare, (3) device fabrication and system integrations of skintronics, (4) an overview of the skintronic platform for personalized healthcare applications, including biosensing as well as wound healing, sleep monitoring, the assessment of SARS-CoV-2, and the augmented reality-/virtual reality-enhanced human-machine interfaces, and (5) current challenges and future opportunities of skintronics and their potentials in clinical translation and commercialization. The field of skintronics will not only minimize physical and physiological mismatches with the skin but also shift the paradigm in intelligent and personalized healthcare and offer unprecedented promise to revolutionize conventional medical practices.

BACKGROUND: When the global COVID-19 epidemic continues to spread, residents pay more attention to their health. This paper studies the relationship between the equity of government health expenditure and the health level of residents. METHODS: The Theil index and a principal component analysis were used to measure the equity of government health expenditure and the health level of residents in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. Then, an empirical study on the relationship between the equity of government health expenditure and the health level of residents in this region was conducted with the System GMM model. RESULTS: 1. The Theil index rose from 0.0115 in 2015 to 0.0231 in 2017 and gradually decreased to 0.0106 in 2020. 2. The overall health level of residents showed an upward trend, rising from 1.95 in 2015 to 2.33 in 2017, then remained high and fluctuated slightly. 3. There was a positive correlation between the Theil index and the health level of residents at a significance level of 1% (ß = 0.903, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: 1. The Theil index was close to 0, indicating that the equity of government health expenditure in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle was generally good. 2. The health level of residents in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle had improved compared to before. 3. The fairer the government's health expenditure, the higher the residents' health level.

Direct in situ fluorescent enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is rarely investigated and reported. Herein, a direct in situ high-performance HRP-labeled fluorescent immunoassay platform was constructed. The platform was developed based on a rapid in situ fluorogenic reaction between Polyethyleneimine (PEI) and p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) analogues to generate fluorescent copolymer nanoparticles (FCNPs). The formation mechanism of FCNPs was found to be the oxidation of •OH radicals, which was further proved by nitrogen protection and scavenger of •OH radicals. Meantime, the fluorescence wavelength of FCNPs could be adjusted from 471 to 512 nm by introducing various substitution groups into the PPD structure. Using cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (N-protein) as the model antigens, the proposed fluorescent ELISA exhibited a wide dynamic range of 5-180 ng/mL and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.19 ng/mL for cTnI, and dynamic range of 0-120 ng/mL and a LOD of 0.33 ng/mL for SARS-CoV-2 N protein, respectively. Noteworthy, the proposed method was successful applied to evaluate the cTnI and SARS-CoV-2 N protein levels in serum with satisfied results. Therefore, the proposed platform paved ways for developing novel fluorescence-based HRP-labeled ELISA technologies and broadening biomarker related clinical diagnostics.

The present study sought to identify gene networks that are hallmarks of the developing inguinal subcutaneous adipose tissue (iWAT) and the interscapular brown adipose tissue (BAT) in the mouse. RNA profiling revealed that the iWAT of postnatal (P) day 6 mice expressed thermogenic and lipid catabolism transcripts, along with the abundance of transcripts associated with the beige adipogenesis program. This was an unexpected finding, as thermogenic BAT was believed to be the only site of nonshivering thermogenesis in the young mouse. However, the transcriptional landscape of BAT in P6 mice suggests that it is still undergoing differentiation and maturation, and that the iWAT temporally adopts thermogenic and lipolytic potential. Moreover, P6 iWAT and adult (P56) BAT were similar in their expression of immune gene networks, but P6 iWAT was unique in the abundant expression of antimicrobial proteins and virus entry factors, including a possible receptor for SARS-CoV-2. In summary, postnatal iWAT development is associated with a metabolic shift from thermogenesis and lipolysis towards fat storage. However, transcripts of beige-inducing signal pathways including ß-adrenergic receptors and interleukin-4 signaling were underrepresented in young iWAT, suggesting that the signals for thermogenic fat differentiation may be different in early postnatal life and in adulthood.
